Above is a TedTalk by researcher Kristin Neff about self-esteem v. self-compassion. It makes a strong case for embracing our imperfect selves, instead of trying to always live up to a superficial standard that makes us suffer and invites us to have feelings like shame and self-loathing. Despite what our achievement-focused culture may encourage us to think, self-compassion helps us thrive, while self-esteem promotes suffering and overwhelm. Let me know your thoughts!
